Fundacion Aprender

Fundación Aprender is a private non-profit organization founded in 2008.

Its mission is to enable people with specific learning difficulties (DEA) to successfully achieve their integral development in equal opportunities from adequate education, support and follow-up to adulthood and professional.

Our main objective is to ensure that children with normal intelligence, whether or not they have dyslexia, achieve school success, which implies:

  • To achieve the objectives of the curricular design contemplating with all specificity the gnostic and practical difficulties of our students. We seek to reach the same goal but in a different way, in other ways.
  • Develop the cognitive skills of each student through the appropriate methodology: Helix model.
  • Develop skills and not only academic skills: interact with others, assume responsibilities, collaborate, face and solve problems, develop critical thinking, be creative, innovative, entrepreneurs.
  • Encourage or recover, if necessary, psycho-affective stability in the student, achieving more security and self-confidence with greater self-esteem.
  • Get the student to learn and enjoy doing so and positively assess their progress, overcoming demotivation and sense of failure, so characteristic in students with dyslexia.

Two schools belong to Fundacion Aprender:

  • Brot School founded in 2011 www.fundacion-aprender.es/brotmadrid/ , is a public school financed by the Spanish Ministry of Education. it is cover since 3 grade of primary (8-9 years old students) until Bachillerato (16-17 years old students). We have 350 students.
  • Jara school, www.colegiojara.com, is a private school open in 2018-2019 school year. 200 students are already on-board, and we increase the students year by year.

To achieve our mission, both schools follow the same pedagogical model, called Helix, based on Decroly and on the experience he teaches from 3 to 16 years old. With the Helix model our students learn cooperatively, through challenges or problems; doing research; observing what surrounds us, doing, manipulating, associating, expressing what has been learned through models, lectures, artistic expressions…; with the teacher as a guide in the classroom, accompanying, awakening interest, helping to understand why, teaching to think … Always enjoying all of each activity!
